*  MARTHA GAINES ROBERTSON nee WOMACK,   Aug 24, 1872  - Oct 12, 1950

Mrs. Mattie Womack Robertson, widow of Edward DeBerniere Robertson, died at her home in Charlotte Court House, Virginia, Thursday, October 12, 1950
Mrs. Robertson was born in Prince Edward County, Virginia, August 24, 1872, the daughter of David Gaines and Mattie Dillon Womack.
She is survived by seven sons: Edward David, Danville, Ky.; Dr. John Newton, Fayetteville, N.C.; Yancey Hagerman, Fuquay Springs, N.C.; Giles Mebane, Richmond; Marvin DeBerniere, Durham, N.C.; Matthew Womack, Charlotte C.H.; Francis Dillon, Charlotte C.H.; also by sixteen grandchildren.
Gathered at the home for the funeral (in addition to many other relatives and friends) were these seven sons and their wives and seven grandchildren.
A very impressive sight, emphasizing the strong tie of motherly and fidial devotion existing between them.
Since their father's death in 1933, the boys provided a delightful home for their mother, visiting her often, sometimes singly, sometimes in groups, and last summer, all seven came at one time. They watched over her tenderly and lovingly and cheerfully provided for her comfort, a beautiful example of a mother's reward for her sacrificial love.
In early life, Mrs. Robertson gave her heart to Jesus Christ and by His grace, she was enabled to live an exemplary life. 'On Christ the Solid Rock She Stood, finding all other ground but sinking sand.'
Her aim was to imitate her Saviour. This she did in many ways, especially in her unselfish service of others. "Others Lord, yes others" was characteristic of her life.
At one time, there lived in her home, in addition to her husband and seven sons, her aged father-in-law and two of his sisters. For these, Mrs. Robertson cared patiently and tenderly adding comfort to their declining years.
Mrs. Robertson was blessed with a beautiful calm disposition, which was evidenced by a sweet, gently voice. "In her tongue was the law of kindness," in her judgement of others there was charity; "in quietness and confidence she found strength."

"Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord."
